Toraphene is a newly invented composite material composed of any polymer reinforced with graphene. Composite materials combine two substances to mitigate their individual limitations. Examples include reinforced concrete and carbon fibre-reinforced polymer. carbon fibre-reinforced polymer.
Polymer mesh excels in compressive strength but has no tensile strength, while graphene sheets in tension but not in compression. Polymer meshes have limited barrier properties against water and oxygen, while graphene sheets offer superior protection against any molecule.
The combination of these materials provides exceptional compression, tensile and barrier properties.
